JOÃO SILVA

Fado Viola

He is a professional Fado musician, graduated in Composition (ESMAE), master in Classical Guitar (ESART) and in Music Teaching (Instituto Piaget de Viseu). He is currently undertaking a PhD in Music Teaching and Psychology (FCSH).

He regularly plays in some of the main fado houses in the country - such as Adega Machado - and is part of several musical projects - such as 'Fado Inside the Box' and 'Fado in Chiado'. He has already recorded and produced several third-party fado albums, and is now preparing to release an album of originals.

With his vast musical and fadista experience, he has everything to enrich another project he has proposed - Fado no Povo!

RICARDO SILVA

Portuguese guitar

He has a degree in Music Education Teachers of Basic Education (ESMAE) and Master  in Portuguese Guitar (ESART).

 

He has already published two albums - Semente (2014) and Contado à Guitarra (2018), both with original compositions for Portuguese Guitar.  

​

He is a professor at the Conservatory and the Professional School of Jorba, as well as at the Coimbra Academy of Music.  


He regularly accompanies several fado singers from the national music scene.

NI FERRERINHA

Bass player

belongs  to various fado groups, including "Raízes de Coimbra", "Romance", "Fado group of the Academic Orfeon of Coimbra", "Fado group of the Former Orfeonists of the University of Coimbra" and "Grupo de Fados Acapella".


In recent years he has also played with several musicians within the universe of Portuguese traditional music where he highlights  Manuel Rocha, Luis Pedro Madeira,  Catarina Moura and Hugo Natal, musicians who came to originate the project "Catarina e os Mouros".


He recorded several CD's - Coimbra song and Lisbon fado -  which highlights the CD of the group "Romance", CD "vinho dos lovers" by Janita Salome,  the CD "100 anos de Fado de Coimbra", CD "Coimbra-RicardoDias Ensemble" and also with Carolina Pessoa and Nuno Sérgio, Edna Costa, Fernando Neto, Zé Perdigão and  Luís Travassos.


It is currently part of the  Coimbra's music project "Pensão Flor" and is  resident musician at Centro Cultural Acapella, of which he is a member.

SORAIA CARDOSO

Fado singer

From an early age, he began to sing at school and at mass, always emphasizing his taste for the Portuguese language.

 

In 2014, he participated in a musical competition in his municipality, entitled "A Voz de Condeixa", in which he reached the final. From then on, everything changed. She started in singing lessons and was invited to be a member of an amateur fado group. The following year, at the age of 16, he returned to compete and got, this time, the 1st place with fado.

 

In 2018, he competed in the television program  "The Voice  Portugal",  reaching the  3rd place, being  the fado singer who managed to take fado further in a program of this format.

 

Since then, she has been singing all over the country, namely  in some fado houses in Lisbon.

​

She was honored at the 3rd Fado gala of A Voz do Operário  with the Women's Revelation Award.

​

Its warm tone and ancient soul leave no one indifferent. It is one of the great promises of the new generation of fado singers.

LUIS TRAVASSOS

Fado singer

Born in 1990 in Coimbra, Luís Travassos grew up in harmony with the smells, sounds and textures of the low Mondego fields.

So, since childhood that this atmosphere, together with family roots, influenced him  and gave space to the curiosity to explore his voice as a way of transmitting sensations through Portuguese song and especially through Fado.

 

In 2005 he started playing the guitar, as a self-taught artist, and in 2007 he stepped onto the first stage at a regional party in his humble land of São Martinho de Árvore, singing "Há uma Música do Povo", lyrics by Fernando Pessoa.

 

After two years, while studying Organic Agriculture at the Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra, he began to be part of several groups with connections to music, but all of these for fun and musical sharing...  

Until in 2011 he created his own project called "Cachimbamba". After two years of concerts in various parts of the country, Luís Travassos is invited to join the cast of the oldest fado house in Coimbra - Diligência Bar - where, until today, he is a resident musician.

 

In 2015 he is invited to join the television format  "Idols" in which, once again through its essence, it won 4th place and catapulted it to a reality of opportunities and recognition by the public that had not yet experienced it so intensely.

 

Nowadays, Luís Travassos is the face of the 'Mutualist Associations' of the city of Coimbra and already  released an album in his own name titled "Uma LongaHistória".

CAROLINA PESSOA

Fado Singer

It was in his youth that he fell in love with fado. In 2008, won 1st place in the Almada Fado Meetings. In 2009, presented her fado on the French stages for the first time (Lyon and Paris). That same year, she won two fado competitions in Lisbon. She sang at the "Fado no Elétrico initiative", in Lisbon (2009 and 2010). In 2011, he sang in Romania (Bucharest), at the invitation of the Portuguese Embassy.

In 2012, returned to the Paris stage. In 2015 and 2016, performed several shows in Vienna (Austria), of "Fado Cruzado", a "Fado ao Centro" project. In 2013, recorded his 1st album, "Lado a Lado", with the fado singer Nuno Sérgio, with whom shared many stages.

In 2017, she sang in the Netherlands, at the invitation of "Fado ao Centro", with the show "Fado Cruzado", in Austria and also performed in San José, California. In 2018, performed in Los Angeles and the south of France (Toulouse and Montpellier). In February 2019, performed in several shows in Lyon (France), with the show of "Fado Cruzado", and also performed in Sacramento (California) and Tours (France). In 2020, in full quarantine, recorded the unreleased song «Ausência», a song by Chico Ávila, a song recorded in Portugal and California.

In 2022, he recorded the theme "Samaritana", a fado from Coimbra at the invitation of Fado ao Centro.

NUNO SÉRGIO

Fado singer

Soon began to listen to and become interested in Fado. The love from fado inherited it from his father and also from his grandparents from Lisbon.

It was by the hand of guitarist Armindo Fernandes, with fado singer Cidália Moreira, who at the age of only 7 appeared in public for the first time, in a typical restaurant in Praia da Vagueira. Fado was in him blood and since then she has never stopped performing.

His own style of singing and being with the public makes him an assumed fado singer, apart from imitations. 

 

He participated and won several Fado competitions in Lisbon including the Grande Noite de Fado of ACOF (Marvila) in 2008.

Also in 2008, participated in the release show of the recording work of the fado singer Yola Dinis “Cerejas e Jasmins” at the Forúm Cultural de Alcochete.

In addition to performing, also writes poems for fado, having sung for the first time a poem of his own in the “Há Fado na Mouraria” competition sponsored by the fado singer Artur Batalha at Teatro da Trindade in Lisbon.

Nuno has performed in the most varied spaces for shows and parties, from north to south of the country, as well as Germany (Munster and Paderborn), France (Toulouse, Paris and Tours), Romania (Bucharest) and the USA (California). It also has several presences in Fado houses in Lisbon such as Bom Garfo (formerly “A Toca” that belonged to guitarist and fado singer Carlos Ramos), Parreirinha de Alfama, Adega Machado, Real Fado, among others.

Finalist of the television program “Nasci para o Fado”, broadcast live from Casino Estoril to RTP1 in May 2010 (most voted contestant by the public in the semifinal) having, in the respective final, performed a duet with the renowned fado singer Fábia Rebordão.

In 2011, recorded an unpublished song written by “Lábios de Cera” himself in the audiobook “Há Fado na Mouraria” with the support of the Museu do Fado de Lisboa and, in 2013, recorded his 1st record with the fado singer Carolina Pessoa called “Lado a Lado” sharing with it many different stages.

ANDRÉ VAZ

Fado singer

André Vaz may be an unfamiliar name to most people, but fado is by no means unfamiliar to André Vaz. Born and raised in the culture of fado, he soon began to sing professionally. The first contests appeared. He was the winner of the great night of fado in 1993 at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, with only 9 years old, then the musicals ("Amália" by Filipe there Féria) and the cinema. As a child, he recorded several records in his own name until discovering, as an adult, his true identity as a fado singer, matured in the best fado houses in the capital. 

At the moment, he is part of the cast of the project "Fado in Chiado", and also of the fado houses "Pateo de Alfama" and "Fado em Si".

He edited his last record in 2017, entitled "FADO".
